    Event 98

    Hi,

I'm having a problem with an error that gets logged when I startup or restart.

Volume HDDRECOVERY (\Device\HarddiskVolume3) needs to be taken offline to perform a Full Chkdsk. Please run "CHKDSK /F" locally via the command line, or run "REPAIR-VOLUME <drive:>" locally or remotely via PowerShell.

I've run chkdsk /f a number of times but the error still occurs. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this?

    I am running 2in 8 pro 64-bit on a toshiba ultabook Portege R700 S-1312 with 8G of ram.

    Thanks,
    Don

Run the HDD test, run the long test, not sure what they call it.
This will tell you your HDD health and fix what it can.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I've tried numerous types of scans and all found no problems. I'm fairly certain that that some flag has been set that won't toggle back to normal. It has not effected the laptop performance but is worrisome to keep seeing that error.

Again, thanks for your suggestion. Any more thoughts on this, other than just ignore it?

    Thanks,
    Don

Not a great idea, but try sfc /scannow. You also could try running automatic repair--another not great idea.

    Hi,

I've followed the suggested tutorial and the results are below. Excellent tutorial by the way. It appears that two of my volumes have no name. I don't see a volume 3. I chatted with MS support and gave them access to my laptop and they could not solve the problem. It appears this is a very isolated case that they have no answer for. I'm at a loss of what to do next. They suggested I contact toshiba support and try to repair the disk through the bios?? Ever heard of that one before?

If your drives passed the tests, then don't worry about it.

You should run the HGST Drive Fitness Test if you haven't yet.
Use the 'CD image' from the link I posted.
Take a look at the 'Drive Fitness Test User's Guide' from the same link.
In the guide: Creating a DFT Test CD Media

    It's all there.
