Solved Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD drive not detected by win8

i have a Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD drive that is not detected by windows 8.

the same system also has winXP and win7, which detect the drive.

the interesting part is the drive was used to install windows 8.

why is windows 8 not detecting the drive?

Is the drive detected in the BIOS? Is there a "yellow bang" next to the drive in device manager? You may need to load a driver for it.

the drive is detected in BIOS. it doesnt show up at all in win8 in device manager, but shows up and works in winxp and win7 on the same system.

Very strange. Is is SATA or IDE? Can you swap it's connection to the motherboard to see if anything changes?

yup, its a 2 SATA header MB and i swapped it with the HDD. still shows up in BIOS, but not win8.

im wondering if there is a firmware update?
