    WD 2TB USB3 EXternal HDD

How do you test a USB 3 HDD speed? I have a WD USB 3 2TB external HDD. After I upgraded to Win8 I found out My USB 3 PCIE card was not compatible. I bought and installed a new card. When I was transferring files to it, the graft or gage at the top of the screen said about 80 MB/s. The card and HDD both said speeds up to 5Gb/s. I never tested it in Win 7, but it seems a lot slower. The card didn't work long with the Windows drivers, it crashed. I downloaded the latest drivers from the manufactures web site. Now it works, but seems slow. I also upgraded the firmware in the HDD. Thanks for any suggestions.

The suggested speed by card and HDD ( 5Gb/s ) is called theoretical speed.the actual 80 Mb/S you get is called practical speed/real life figures. This mismatch has been from along time even USB 2.0 projected a theoretical speed of 480 Mbit/s but in real life only 30 Mb/S
    were possible.Most of my USB 3.0 gives 70 - 90 Mb/S.

OS is Windows 8.1 Pro x64 on both my desktop and laptop. I keep my digital images on an SSD in an external USB3 enclosure, because I transfer images to the drive and work on the images when I'm at home on the desktop and also when travelling with a laptop - both machines have USB3 ports. The...
Hi there, After upgrading to Windows 8.1, (also happened in 8) I'm having a problem with my USB3 Seagate External HDD. For some reason my computer is not finding the drive after it's been switched off. I have to unplug-and re-plug in the USB lead for computer to recognise it. It's fine after...
Hi there Has anybody found any USB3 cards yet that actually give anything like proper USB3 speed on a Mobo that didn't originally have any USB3 cards. Most of the stupid PCI-e cards have transfer speeds little better than decent USB2 devices. Comparing a decent USB3 external HDD transfer speed...

Hi Guys, I have bought a 2TB western Digital external USB3 hard drive and installed the Asmedia drivers but windows never picks it up. See the screen capture. The drivers are the ASMedia USB 3 host controller but it seems to show up after a few seconds as USB Root Hub (xHCI) with a triangle. I...

Anybody know of a beta-driver for USB3 and a Z77 Intel chipset? (on a MSI mobo) My USB3 is so sloow compared to same port in Windows 7. My daily backup of files, drawings and reports takes a LOT of time. This might be a windows 8 killer, if Intel and MS can't solve it.
USB3 in W8 anyone yet ?? in Drivers & Hardware
Hi all Anyone tried USB3 devices yet IN NATIVE USB3 Mode (not USB 2 compatability). I'm thinking of getting a couple of USB3 devices but if they only will work in USB2 mode then the extra expense IMO won't be worth it as USB2 speeds seem to be a lot better in W8 than W7. Cheers jimbo
