Ixtreme X8540 Surround sound not working after Windows 8.

I have tried for some time now to get my surround sound to work on my Packard Bell Ixtreme X8540 since upgrading to Windows 8 via Microsoft's upgrade tool. When I had Vista installed, there was an icon on the bottom task bar which would take me to a control centre for the audio which gave the option to select either 5.1 or stereo. This is no longer there and I now only have sound going to my two front speakers and my bass bin. I have searched for drivers, etc. to no avail. Any idea what I can do to fix this problem because Packard Bell refused to help and directed me to a premium 50p a minute number? Thanks.

I was thinking about just getting a cheap 5.1 PCI sound card as it doesn't look like there's a great deal of support for this issue. Anything anyone would recommend? There is the Speed-Link Stage on Amazon for a tenner (UK), does anyone know if this is worth getting to save a load of hassle?

Hi, since installing Windows 8, the DVD eject button on my Packard Bell Ixtreme X8540 won't work. I've searched for solutions and installed the Gateway Photo Frame 4.1.3.10 software by I/O Interconnect as suggested, but this hasn't fixed the problem. Any idea what I can do to fix it? Thanks.
