Win 8 Refuses to Boot After changing SATA Port?

Normally I dual boot Windows 8 and Kubuntu off a single SATA 3 SSD. However, I need to transfer data from one 3TB SATA 3 HDD to another 3TB SATA 3 HDD. So I switched out my cables moving the 3TBs to the SATA 3 ports and moving the SSD to a SATA 2 port for the time being. When booting, I get presented with BURG bootloader(think grub but icons rather then text), and I can choose Kubuntu and boot up no problem. However, when I boot Windows 8, it sits on the Win 8 boot screen for 15 min like it is loading. After 15 min, my screen starts flashing every few seconds like the PC is rebooting. My monitor shows me a DVI connection logo once second, and blank the next, and just keeps going in a boot loop like this. Any ideas why Win 8 won't boot?

I am bit shy of 24 hours, so I apologize if I am bumping this to early, but I would like to know what the problem is, and if possible, find a solution.

Could it be a setting in the bios pertaining to the boot sequence because you moved the SSD to a different SATA port.

Thanks for the response sandman. I am pretty sure I checked the boot order and see no problems there. The fact fact that I can get to the win 8 loading screen seems to indicate the problem is something software side of win 8 imo.

I suppose that could be it, but I don't get the solution? Should I play with the boot order in the BIOS?

Ok so I did a clean install due to a lack of responses. It was working fine with grub, but I wanted to use burg. So I boot in to linux, and run update-burg hoping this would present me with burg. It didn't but I choose to boot win 8 and it shows a win 8 styled screen with a win 8 logo and it claims it can not find some file(something in /system/).

Did you check to see if the hard drive is set to AHCI versus SATA (or IDE) mode in the BIOS?

I hadn't checked but I remember that it is set to achi. Tbh I couldn't tell you what I did to get it working but I did disable Win 8 fast boot and wonder if that was a culprit since I dual boot Linux. Seems that leaving it on is a major problem for dual boosters. Burg has an os prober like grub. It detects windows on both the win 8 data partition, and the ~300 jb or so system files portion. I can boot either selection via burg and deleted the entry for the win 8 data partition. I have booted back and forth several times now with no problems.

I'm glad to see that you got things fixed. A very common issue is that the BIOS setting can get changed from SATA to AHCI or the reverse, causing the drive not to boot.

Howdy, I've been having an issue with my Acer S7-391. I bought the Windows 8 machine in December, and the majority of the time when I start it up in the morning, it doesn't boot properly - it hangs on a black screen for ages. I then have to hit the off button and boot it back up again...
