I have the Surface RT and used OneNote to create a basic diagram. Not as nice as I would like, but my Windows 8 phone and Windows 8 home PC are updated in real time as I draw on the Surface RT. Talk about cool!! And this is with the RT. Wait till the Pro comes out with real stylus support. I can't wait.

Well coke it's good you mention Google DOC because in the Demo of Fronz, using Web app, the files in 2 devices are open in preview, he can't edit them. One Google DOC, anyone of the 3 devices can edit at same time.

Actually Only Google DOC offer multi directional editing in real time, it's like if you chat in the document.

Look if you enlarge Fronz pic you can see it's in preview mode

pre.jpg

Actually it's more complicate than this, in preview mode you can do few things in certain application like power point and note, but in Word a big No

Coke, next time you want compare Google with Microsoft Web Apps, make sure you try both before make a statement. You see I evaluate Office 365, Microsoft Web Apps and Google Doc , I even have a 365 and Google Apps paid account.

Now this got me to thinking and testing. Molebo, you are incorrect saying that only Google Docs offers multi directional editing in real time.

I am not using MS Web apps. I am not using Office 365. I am using straight Office 2013 which is installed on my home PC, on the RT, and on my HTX 8x (limited version, I assume). The snippet you show doesn't mean that I am in preview mode. It means that I am using the MS OneNote 2013 Preview edition which is the default that comes with the RT. I haven't downloaded the full Student Edition MS Office 2013 which is currently available.

The real time editing is done via open OneNote 2013 on my PC and RT. As I make changes in one or the other, they are auto saved and then updated automatically to the other device. Maybe I shouldn't say real time as this is misleading. I should say near real time as there is a few second delay when updating. When making the change in my RT, it takes about 5 seconds for the change to show up on my PC. When I make a change on my PC, it takes about 1 second for it to show up on my RT. Again, both the RT and PC have native MS OneNote 2013 open. No preview mode or anything. No MS Web app or Office 365.

Of course, I tried this in MS Word 2013 to test your statement that it won't work. It does indeed sync in near real time but not as fancy as OneNote. With Word, it will have an icon at the bottom of the page showing the number of users currently editing the doc.

MS Word.jpg

Once you make a change on either RT or PC, you need to hit the Save icon. When you do this, after a few seconds, you will get an alert icon at the bottom indicating there are updates available. When you select the update icon, the changes you made on the other device are inserted into the doc.

MS word 2.jpg

As I mentioned, not as simple as OneNote. But one could surely carry on a chat in Word (but why?) by opening a doc and accepting updates as they appear. With OneNote, however, you could carry on a chat without accepting updates. I suspect that Word doesn't allow multiple edits to the same doc without the other users accepting changes. You can imagine the confusion that would occur if multiple users edit the same doc at the same time. Who's changes would be kept?

I haven't tested Google Docs. I will do this later to compare the two.

thanks a lot to say I'm incorrect and finish your sentence with the fact that you have not test Google Doc, this give 0 credibility to your statement. I test it, millions of peoples have test it and it work., I question the motivation of peoples to make such statement to push the sale of Surface, you will just make peoples unhappy at the end. Now show me the same thing with Word

here you see , as opposite of you I try it on Google , you can see my Galaxy Note " side by side with my PC monitor and when I update a number in the spreadsheet it change also right away in the other device. Who is BSing now ?

of course you not on Office 365, this is how look office 365, Now my PC with office 2013 ( the real one, I pay for my stuff) is not available but I will show you later, a screen showing the preview as you show and the windows showing it's activated. That will be another fact that I try it too.

Molebo, my apologies if I have offended you. It was never my intent.

I don't believe I ever said you were incorrect about Google Docs. I stated you were incorrect about saying that only Google Docs allows real time multi editing.

I ended by stating that I haven't tested with Google Docs because... I haven't tested with Google Docs. I don't see how this makes my credibility zero. I never stated one works better than the other. I have no idea how Google Docs work. As a matter of fact, your comments on how Google Docs works intrigued me and this is why I stated I will test with Google Docs. My ultimate goal is to find a solution that works for me. If Google Docs works better, then I will use Google Docs. If it turns out to be similar, then I will need to decide which direction to go.

I have seen/read many negative comments concerning the Surface. I don't care if people purchase it or not. But I would like to at least give people a chance to see why the Surface is a good tablet. I would like them to see how it can best work for them. Then, people can make an educated decision.

You took my statement out of context, Office in general, Web Apps, metro apps, and Desktop apps; are WWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY better than google docs.

what will be my interest to BS, I don't want to promote Microsoft or other product here. This is clear to see that everyone, that you even eat MS paper advertising for breakfast. This is an open free market, I purchase other thing than MS.

this is very simple to check, Google doc are free. no need to purchase a surface, office 2013, I guess you can use it on your phone too. all true it's probably too small. It's you COKE, who BS us bringing Google on the subject and saying false thing about it, it's normal, you have not try it. Now if you try it and say it don't sync, well I will have another name.

On my part, I have Windows 8, Office 2013, Office 365 link to my domain name. Google Apps also link to another domain name I own so I have choice to use the one I like best. I can think outside the Microsoft box, me.

You see COKE the difference between you and me , is that I actually purchase Windows 8, your Enterprise expire very soon.

False, Office Webs apps are free to use and offer more features over the basic google docs. All you need is a Microsoft account. Then you also get 7 gigs of SkyDrive storage, but that's beside the point.

You don't need to even buy a PC, tablet PC, phablet, or smartphone. All you need is an internet browser, which is still google docs, but Office Web Apps are nicer looking, have more features over google docs, and doesn't look like a bland Office 2003 or libreoffice online clone.
