Is this the correct RST driver?

Hey all,

Today I noticed on the Intel website there's a newer version of the Intel Rapid Storage driver (see here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...rsion=Windows 8, 64-bit*&DownloadType=Drivers).

My problem is, I'm not sure if this is the right RST driver for my pc.
I have an Asrock Pro4 Z77 mobo with a Hitachi HDD in AHCI mode running on Windows 8 Pro 64 bit

Also, I noticed that the driver in the link is an AHCI version. A while ago I installed a RST driver without checking if it's for RAID or AHCI.
I looked in the Device Manager and I saw that the Storage controller seemed to have a Microsoft driver instead of Intel's RST. That is when I thought (and I could be wrong) maybe I've installed the wrong (RAID) driver. The IDE ATA/ATAPI controller group showed that I have an Intel 7 Series/C216 Chipset SATA AHCI Controller.

If the driver in the link is the correct one for my pc, is it safe to uninstall the old one and download the new version?

Here is the link to the Intel automatic updater. It will scan your system and show any available updates.

I've used that on both my Gigabyte and ASRock Z77 Professional Fatal1ty motherboards.

I tried that and it only checks drivers for chipset and integrated graphics. I think a manual version check and install is needed for IRST, hence why I'm asking here if this is the correct one for my pc.

Anyone else has any idea on this? I'm also worried about uninstalling the old one since I read about people not being able to boot into Windows after uninstalling it :\

After I saw your post, I went to the Intel site, and yes it is a manual install the scanner doesn't include the RST. I've installed the update on my Win 7 system and it boots up OK (I've rebooted twice since installing the update - once because of the RST update and then the second time because Windows detected and reinstalled by SSD's (Win 7 OS and Win 8 OS) and that also required a reboot.

Have you uninstalled the older version of the RST prior to updating?

Yes, I had an older version running. However, I didn't have any RAID setup.

I also just installed the update on my Win 8 OS and it too is working OK (I'm entering this from Win 8).

Finally got the guts to uninstall them and install the newer ones

If you are only using AHCI (I.e. not RAID), you probably don't need that Intel control panel thingy (cannot recall what it is called from top of my head).

I usually download just the driver (floppy drive version) and go into device manager, update the disk controller by right click -> update then pointing to the location of the files extracted from the downloaded zip file. Lesser the services the better, right?

I've never uninstalled the old driver before installing the new one. Just update.
