Good Day! I'm a newbie here in Eightforums.
I am plannning to upgrade my laptop ( an ASUS K53SD ) running Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 Pro. I also download the Windows 8 64 bit drivers in ASUS support site. However, one question comes to my mind that was still left unanswered::think:

When should I install these drivers? Should I install it in the Windows 7 environment before upgrade, or should it be after Windows 8 was installed?

Thank you in advance.:)

Hello and welcome!

Well firstly, to save you a LOT of trouble down the road, do a clean install. This will mean using a 4 gig USB flash drive or DVD, the upgrade assistant should ask you if you want to make a bootable .iso to install Windows 8. The reason why is that upgrade installs are stereotypically been flawed. Right now, here on Eight Forums, there have been several people that did an upgrade install of 8 over 7 and had things go awry.

This is your first thing to do, you can go to the Tutorials section of said forum and search for custom or clean install.

Next, Windows 8 is a REAL slick motherlover with drivers and getting the right drivers installed automatically, it's honestly impressive. All you most likely will need to do is install Windows 8, its basic default drivers should have everything working correctly. Then, once you're connected to the internet and run Windows Update, it should find you special drivers, like SD card readers or the Intel graphics driver. I would only download the drivers from the ASUS site if some part of the laptop isn't working properly, like the touch pad for example.

So it means that I should not worry about installing those drivers from the manufacturer's site?

Basically, but if you have something that isn't running correctly like a card reader or a touch pad (if it had gestures in 7 and doesn't in Windows 8, you may need to install the correct driver manually) then you should be fine.

You're welcome! :)
