First, I hope I'm posting this in the thread. I didn't see a "Help" or one that's more about actual hardware in association with Win 8.
Anyway, long story short, I've installed Win 8 (fresh install) on a SSD drive, my HDD is where I store all my files, everything worked just fine.
I booted up and Windows 8 was doing some kind of scan disk @ the boot screen and it clearly specificied working on the D:\ drive (HDD). Thinking it was like any previous Windows scan disk before boot, I hard-reset and booted back in.
This time around though, the disk is still visible yet cannot be accessed. I tried installing it in another computer and the same thing happens. So here is what I tried, CHKDSK from a cmd, scan disk from the actual OS but nothing gives me access to the drive.
I do see the remaining space, if I'm to scan it with say Avast, I see the folders and filenames. If I boot in cmd prompt, I can access the files, and delete if need be.
But the moment I'm looking at the HDD from a Windows OS, it's locked and denies me access.
If I could just find a way to re-start the repair/scan disk/check disk from the Win 8 boot screen, maybe it would fix it, anyone with an idea?

P.S. The screenshot shows the error message, and on the right while trying to fix permissions, you clearly see that Windows can indeed understand the folder hierarchy. (It doesn't fix it though)

After having tried to backup through XCOPY and not getting results, I decided to install Windows 8 on the HDD and everything booted just fine, I can also access the HDD now from the SSD installed OS.
