I live in Dublin Ireland!

I can't buy a Surface RT Tablet.

I can't buy one in the US, UK, Ireland or anywhere else!

They will not ship to Ireland & do not have them in the Irish Microsoft store!!

Would Apple treat a life long customer like this!!!

:cry::sleepy::rolleyes::mad:

Have you really looked at this Microsoft Surface thing? at what you get for it's high price? The RT O.S. is not even a full Win8. Maybe you guys are the lucky ones. And no Apple would not offer such an over priced system without it really having a lot to offer.

Some of my local stores have been selling them for weeks, and they've been available online as well.

No, Apple wouldn't treat their life long customers like this. Apple would have a shortage to boost demand, then lie to their fan base on how revolutionary their device was, only to release it with features a year old. Oh, and they'd charge that loyal customer more than the competition.

The Surface is the same price as the iPad, and it has a number of things that the iPad doesn't, such as an SD slot, and a real USB port. And it comes with Office, you have to pay extra to get an office suite on the iPad, and then it's not Office.

Yeah there just flying off the shelves. NOT!!! Microsoft themselves have admitted they were not selling well. Oh it comes with a full MS Office not what I hear. Maybe later it might but with Open Office and Kingsoft both being free who really needs it today. I bought a copy of MS Office for my Mac but never use it. If anyone thinks the Surface is on the same level as the iPads I have news for you, they are NOT.

I know a lot of people that have traded in their iPad's for Surfaces because it has Office, and yes, it's real office, not some mobile cut down version like the old mobile office was.

Surfaces are selling well, the only thing that has been said by Microsoft was a poorly translated (from French) comment by Ballmer about "Modest" sales. It was poorly translated because he was talking about how the availability of the surface was modest. Microsoft has only made it available online and in their Microsoft stores. You can't buy it at Best buy, or Fry's or any of the other major big box retailers because Microsoft has not made it available to them.

Given the limited availability of Surfaces, it's selling quite well.

I'd love to hear exactly how the iPad is superior to the Surface, since the only feature that's better is the Retina display, while the Surface has a lot more. (I noticed, by the way, how you ignored the fact the iPad doesn't have any external storage facility, and can't use any USB devices).

You are absolutely right. The iPad is a glorified toy that suffers from Apple's oppressive mindset, yet the Surface is an actual computer, capable of performing many real world, useful tasks that the iPad can't come close to doing. I couldn't agree with you more!

I just came from our mall where Microsoft has a small Kiosk and Apple has a full store. I walked past the MS Surface Kiosk where about four people were standing, with one Microsoft guy standing inside. This is almost the same amount of people who were there the last time I was looking at the Surfaces. Then I walked down to the Apple store where it was full maybe fifty+people were inside with almost that many trying to get inside.
What Microsoft is trying to do is make a tablet into a notebook, and it just is not working. When someone can just buy a quality small notebook for say $500 or less, and have a full Microsoft OS with lots of memory and an optical drive. Along with WiFi USB and much more. If people want a tablet they don't need another notebook, as myself I have five notebooks so if I need one I already have one. what people want is a great table with a great retina screen a super fast processor and an OS that really works and does not crash crash crash. This is why the Apple iPad4 is the best tablet and the best selling tablet world wide.
Now along with my two iPads a iPad2 and my new iPad4 I have two fine Android tablets a Galaxy Tab2 and the Galaxy 10.1 note. They are really nice tablets. So I am not just an Apple person. My real prediction is if the Microsoft Surface is still around next year at this time, and I don't think it will. The reason will be is that Microsoft is still spending stockholders money to keep if floating.
Lets face facts by setting the high price on their new surface trying to do as Apple has always done, they have doomed it's sales. Apple can demand their high prices and people will pay them. Samsung and even Google have learned that they must get their prices below the iPads if they intend on selling any.
This forum is not about the Microsoft Surface or the it's RT O.S. it's about Microsoft Windows 8. So my advice to you thread readers is stick to computers using Win8 and forget tablets running Microsoft RT.

I installed Kingsoft Office "free" on my iPad I bought a nice Logatech Blue tooth keyboard $69US I can do all the typing in threads and e-mail also do word processing if I care. I can even use my wireless printer. But I did not really buy any of my tablets to replace my notebook computers. I bought the iPad to play a few games and watch videos check the Net forums, not to use as a computer.

All I want is a device for my 83 year old wife (I am the oldest member of this forum) that doesn't have all the useless features (for her) of the ianything!

All she wants to do is use Email & Net Browser! She spends a lot of time on her Tosh laptop, but it is overkill for her needs!!

The John Lewis store in Dublin only handles clothing.

If you want anything else, you are transferred to their UK site & have to pay £7.50 shipping charges

Their price is £500+ shipping. A COMPLETE RIP-OFF.

I also don't think they can ship MS computers out of the UK.

The only way to get a MS Surface RT Tablet from John Lewis is to have it shipped to N.I..

Why is MS playing games?
