If you enter your Service Tag number on the Dell site it will take you to the correct downloads for your Dell PC. Windows 7 drivers will work in a lot of cases if there are no Windows 8 drivers. You may have to install them using compatibility mode. The Service Tag number should be displayed in BIOS and be printed on a sticker somewhere on your PC.

Based upon my experience (I support several Dell models and have loaded 8 on more than one) you won't even need drivers. Windows 8 will find everything just fine.

Having said that, if anything doesn't set up properly, you can still go to Dell's support site and download the drivers.

Windows Update might help as well.

Have fun with Windows 8.

Make sure you’re on the PC you want to upgrade. This must be a PC that is currently running Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3), Windows 8 Release Preview, Windows 8 Consumer Preview, or Windows Developer Preview. (Windows 8 Setup checks that your PC meets all system requirements before it installs Windows 8.)

Have your product key handy. You can find it in your online order information, in the confirmation email for your purchase, or on the packaging. The product key will look something like this:
XXXXX- XXXXX- XXXXX- XXXXX- XXXXX

Make a backup of everything you want to keep. Save it somewhere you can get to it later, like an external drive or a DVD.

thanks again....i have visited the dell support . when i click on windows 7 there are so much driver option but when i click on widows 8 there are so few drivers..( i will attach also)....my core question is why many driver for seven and few for eight. ? do windows 8 work with only few drivers? wont it be hampered or paralised by the limited driver given in dell sites..,,....how other drivers will be compensated by little drivers compared to the bunch of many drivers,,,,,,please help and dont get irritated by questions seven.JPGeight.JPG

Nobody can tell you with 100% certainty that Windows 8 will work on your PC. Not unless they have tried it with that exact model. You could Run the upgrade adviser and see what it says.

i have latest dell ispiron 4110 with graphics card of 1 gb...so windows 8 must work here .....

the drivers available from the dell site for that model cover all the current driver revisions required for the entire laptop.

the reason it has more options for windows 7 is because those were required for that o/s while windows 8 supports those elements without need of an additional driver.

you can safely install windows 8 without any fear of a driver being missing, you may want to visit their site first and get those drivers save them to a memory stick before doing the install of windows 8.
