For $899 this is way out of pricing. You have to pay extra for a cover and extra for more memory. Their are comparable tablets out their that cost a lot less. I was going to get one, but the price they want is ridiculous. 10" screen, you can get a much larger screen and other goodies for much less. I don't think they will sell many at the price they want. I can buy a new laptop with windows 8 pro touch screen , 17" screen and it will do all the things and more that a windows 8 pro tablet will do for a lot less. If Microsoft wants to compete with I Pad, they need to do it with their pricing.

the Lenovo is almost twice as heavy. and I'm not a fan of twisting convertibles. too many times, you're in an awkward situation to convert like on the airplane. I've owned Tablet PCs for a long time. I still have my HP TX2000 (which was twisting). I also have a Lenovo one (which was also twisting though the Lenovo was a pen-only screen, no touch).

Jimbo, you're coming from a traditional world where you want a basic laptop or desktop. You don't even want a touch screen. That thinking doesn't match what most people are thinking when it comes to touch screens and form factors.

I'd rather buy the Lenovo Yoga, 1,000 dollars for a 13 inch screen and a 128 gig SSD.

I'm still more or less for the Surface Pro. But I might wait it out as the need isn't necessitating the purchase as urgent.

@Jimbo,

People will buy things for non logical reasons, e.g. it is small or it is trendy.

If you market it right, they will pay a massive premium for no performance benefits.

it's not about marketing. it's about fulfilling needs. not everything is about bang for the buck. My 17" laptop slaughters most laptops out there. But it weighs a ton and has no battery life. For people that want a touch screen laptop, the Lenovo is good.

But for people that want a tablet/laptop, 3.5 lbs is 3.5 lbs with no flexibility on the weight issue.

It's the same reason why a smartphone costs $700-900 (unsubsidized). It's a lot less powerful than a laptop but you're paying for the size. And small and light is not easy to do.

Almost everything is about marketing.

It is why Aapl are able to get around 50% gross margin on iphones.

A traditional laptop design simply locks you into a traditional work environment/mindset. That suits some, but tablet design offers far greater variety and versatility than any laptop design. I've been wating for decent tablets to come out for decades and they are finally available and getting better.

ThinkPads have always been superior. This one would knock the socks off a Surface.

At 3.5lb, it would probably knock the socks off, and flatten, any tablet. :)

It'd be an upgrade over the HP laptop I have at the moment, but it's basically the same price as the Surface Pro, and while it has a faster CPU and 4GB more RAM, I'm not sure it makes up for the fact it's heavier and larger (dimensions). Each his or her own, but if you're looking to replace a tablet with a dual-purpose computing device, this probably wouldn't be my first choice.

Apple gets what they get because they built a solid fan base from good products. It started with the iPods. Those people, combined with the traditional Apple fans became the base for the iPhone and it just spread from there. And it's such a tight, big ecosystem, people are less likely to switch to a new ecosystem.

Marketing can only get you so far. You still need good products.

It's true, Apple's product design is quite good. I'd argue their products aren't really all that fantastic anymore compared to the competition, but they're good enough and they do have the ability to build a reality distortion field around their products because they earned that ability. Yes, marketing helped a great deal, but they were marketing great, well-polished products back then compared to any competition that may have existed. They don't have that today, but they still have good marketing and a user base that will (for the most part) continue to use those products iteration after iteration until something VASTLY better comes along that also provides a good migration experience. So far, that part hasn't happened.

I'll tell you why the twist does not work for me. I bought the flip which is the same as the twist computer wise and it does not output a 1080p display to my monitor, so back it went. Also the battery life was less than 3 hr. I want one computer to be my legacy desktop, to travel with and to read books with. So I'm waiting for Surface Pro or Transformer Book with it's larger displays.

With Surface Pro, you pay extra for the Pro edition of Windows 8, no bloatware plus the tablet form factor (extremely portable and space saver) and lastly, better support from Microsoft. Sure you can get an ultrabook or even the acer w700 tablet for a cheaper price, but it comes with bloatware, lackluster support and probably, compatibility issues. IMO Microsoft Surface pro is neither cheap nor expensive for its features.

I think it's cool. It's an i7 for less than a MacBook Pro. Cheaper than a surface and comes with the keyboard, which I would need for a bunch of work. Sure, it's a bit heavier than a Surface, but that's apples to oranges. You have to compare it to carrying a Surface and a spare keyboard around to plug into the Surface. If all you want to do is read/browse content and perhaps have some light text input, then a tablet-only device would make sense. But for me, something like this unit would be cool.
