Asus p9x79 WS, Win8 64, Intel Management Engine install

    Hello,

I am trying to install the Intel MEI (Intel Management Engine) for the Asus P9x79 WS motherboard. I have had no issues installing this on Win7 x64. However, when trying to install the drivers in Win 8 x64 from the Asus install CD, I get a OS not supported message. There are no drivers listed on the Asus website for this mobo and Win8, and attempts to get it from other locations, such as Station-drivers, have also failed.

No issue, I should just try and get the drivers from Intel right? Well they don't exactly install either. I get a message stating "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software"

Does anyone have any idea on what driver we are supposed to use for this? This is causing both a " Simple Communications Controller " and "Unknown Device" to show up in Device Manager.

    Thanks!

Am I really the only one having this issue?

Asus has a Win8 installer available for download. (It's under "utilities".)

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P9X79 WS

I have a P9X79 Pro rather than a WS, but I had no trouble installing the Win8 installer and running it.

There's a newer version (8.1.10.1286) available directly from Intel:

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...d=mei&lang=eng

which also works. The 8.1.2.1318 versions don't seem to support the X79 chipset.

The intel link fixed it, not sure how I missed that one, each driver i installed from Intel was throwing the error. How, if you dont mind me asking (so i can find it myself in the future) did you find that?

I searched for MEI at the Intel download site. There were several dated 1 Nov., 2012. I looked at the supported boards under each. (I'm used to Intel installers supporting multiple chipsets, so I was a bit surprised at these.) The one I supplied the link to supports X79 boards.

No special knowledge was involved, just the belief that the drivers had to be there.
