Indeed yes, it is working. Still missing some performance but now it is down to under 5%, so that is really nice. How do we make Microsoft and Intel aware of that this is what we want?
Thank you very much, tw33k, nice of you sharing this info with us!

A very big thank you to tw33k for finding this fix. Its not perfect but its way better than we had before.

Shame on Intel for ignoring this, and shame on MS for not making better drivers, or at least letting the public know about this crippled feature.
What i don't get is Windows 8 and USB3 are supposed to be the way forward, the future, yet this OS cripples it.

Glad it's working for you both. If Intel isn't going to release something then Microsoft have to make it a matter of urgency to get their drivers working properly

I didn't realize I had an issue with my Intel USB 3.0 ports until I tried using my new USB 3.0 drive this weekend. I got a message that it wasn't usable due to a previous device failure, yet it worked fine in my one USB 2.0 port. 2.0 devices work fine in my USB 3.0 ports, too. I'm going to follow this guide and see how it goes. Thanks!

I'm happy to report that it worked. After 5 minutes of work, I am now able to use my USB 3.0 flash drive on my USB 3.0 ports on my Ultrabook. Previously, the device wasn't even recognized using the Microsoft stack.

I went to the web site to download the driver. It said for I7 processors 2nd generation only. I have a first generation, do you think it will work with that? I couldn't find one for 1st generation.

    Thanks Clint

Update: It didn't work on my PC.

    Trouble with WinTel?

Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver
Where is Intel® USB 3.0 Extensible Host Controller driver for Windows 8*?

Windows 8* has a native in-box USB 3.0 driver. Intel is not releasing a specific Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver for Windows 8.

If you are upgrading Windows 7* to Windows 8, uninstall the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver before installing the upgrade.

    Operating System: Windows 8*

This applies to: Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver

Just found this thread, was waiting for an Intel USB 3 driver for Windows 8.
My Intel USB 3 port, with the Windows driver, is a little slower than the Intel USB 2 port.
The VIA USB 3 port is almost twice as fast as the Intel USB 3 port.
    Tested with ATTO.

    Will try tw33k's fix.

    Edit: It works.
Downloaded the latest Intel driver, made the changes, installed.
When checked in Device Manager it has Intel USB 3 driver
Not going to complain, the Intel USB 3 port is about 1% faster than the VIA USB 3 port, huge improvement.

Hi there USB3 seems sometimes to be a bit flakey on W8.1 -- the speed inexplicably drops quite considerably until the system is re-booted and then the drive works at full speed again. (External USB 3 drive on a laptop with dedicated USB3 slot) No viruses or malware -- just seems to happen...

Greetings. USB3 and Windows 8 is still a fuss I think. When using Windows 8.1 internal USB3 driver for my Z77 chipset, my USB3 sticks runs fine when using them directly in the USB 3 ports on the mobo, but my Skarkoon USB 3 hub is only running USB2 speeds Internal 4-Port USB3.0 Hub | SHARKOON...

New driver needed to increase USB3 performance in Z77 chipset. Performance is really low compared to same port in Win7, but for some reason the driver from Windows 7, won't install!! (Is not compatible it says).
USB3 in W8 anyone yet ?? in Drivers & Hardware
Hi all Anyone tried USB3 devices yet IN NATIVE USB3 Mode (not USB 2 compatability). I'm thinking of getting a couple of USB3 devices but if they only will work in USB2 mode then the extra expense IMO won't be worth it as USB2 speeds seem to be a lot better in W8 than W7. Cheers jimbo
