Log into BIOS and see if there is an option. Alternatively, you can probably disable it in device viewer.

I did exactly what you said. There was 2 mouse, one PS2 mouse which is the mouse pad and the other was the USB mouse. I disabled the PS2 mouse, restarted the computer and sadly nothing changed. Do you have other suggestions?

You might try uninstalling the one giving trouble then reinstall asking for windows to search online for driver. This might make it stop with the erraticness if it is software related.

My card reader would not work and uninstalling was the only way I could get it to work.

Check your manual, there may be a keyboard key combo you can press to disable it. If there is one that should stick even after a reboot.

Here's what worked for me. I opened Control Panel and in thebox at upper right, I typed in mouse. At the upper left I saw a mouse iconwhich I clicked on and opened. There was a tab at the upper right that said"Touch pad settings". I clicked on that and saw that there is a placewhere you can enable or disable the touch pad.

Thanks for your help. I got a friend to work on it and he was able to disable the mouse pad by holding down the key fn and the x key next to the key insert very top row right corner (Dell computer) and it worked. I have now the option of enabling or disabling the mouse pad.
