I have an HP printer that has installed a virtual CD with the driver.

The software won't install, but the printer works fine regardless, problem is, I can't eject the virtual CD no matter what I do.

Any way to force this thing to eject?

Can you uninstall this thing and install only the drivers, I suspect it'S not compatible with the ISO mounting now include with Windows 8, HP is notorious to install bloatware and many crap like this.

The printer freaking installed this automatically to "help me out" I suppose.

I turn the printer on, it sticks this virtual CD in my system without even asking me, and now I can't kill it.

HP Smart Install it's called. Argh.

The computer is a homebuild, so, it's pretty clean otherwise.

Hmm, I went into Computer Management and saw that it was being treated as a USB drive. I disabled and uninstalled it from there and it went away.

I don't have the best feeling about doing it that way, but, it seems to be gone in both Computer Management and in Computer.

My guess is that the printer is emulating a dvd drive for you. there may be a way to configure it to not emulate a dvd drive, or to make Windows ignore that drive.

Disabling and uninstalling it from Computer Manager was pretty brute, but it seems gone now.

Thanks everyone!

HP P1102w

The printer itself automatically installed the faux "USB drive" with the install package on it.

It's back!

Something in the printer ROM keeps sticking this thing on my computer without my permission. Nice job HP.

It won't install, hangs halfway through, and it can't eject or permanently kill it.

Argh.

I just have CD Drive (F: ) HP Smart Install just sitting in my Computer.

Disk Management -> select F: drive (not the partition) and remove the drive letter.

Does that work?

And what model printer is it? If it's smart enough to emulate a DVD drive, it may be smart enough to have a feature that allows you to disable that virtual DVD drive. I just need to know which model it is in order to locate the manual or any other information.
