Hi there
I see the RT PRO (available early in 2013) has like the Surface RT an HDMI out.

Metro Apps tend to look a bit silly on these large screens -- Three or even four could fit comfortably on this type of screen and the live applications would look great.

Hopefully Ms will come up with some way of enabling re-sizing of Metro apps for large screens. I can see myself (even though I'm not normally a tablet fan) possibly using the PRO model when it appears -- and would certainly feed the output into a large LCD screen (most hotels I use have these now and you can just plug the HDMI cable into one of the TV's HDMI slots).

I currently use my laptop this way -- a 50 inch screen works great !! -- but if this tablet allows Windows apps to run on it then I could be persuaded to get one.

From what I've seen the surface RT looks fine --but I really want "Classical" windows apps too other than office which runs on the Surface RT.

Having a USB port also makes all the difference --as well as the micro sd card storage as it mean I can plug in an external device and watch movies directly or copy the movies to the sd card and do the same thing.

cheers

What happened Jimbo, I've been throwing Surface Pro specs at you for quite some time to show that it's a capable hybrid, it's good that you are seeing the potential. Great for travel which is why I'm interested. BTW, the PRO doesn't have HDMI out it has Mini Display Port, but adapters should be available to convert that into HDMI which is what I do with my ultrabook that has a display port. Even though the screen itself is 1920x1080 I'm curious to know what the external resolution can be for a secondary monitor.

Hi there
I tested an RT for a WEEK last week -- used also at work to connect to the VPN and ran all my work stuff just fine with an external monitor (only needed 1366 X 768 -- fine on a 22 / 24 inch monitor.

The mini==>HDMI cables are easy to get so I'm curious in how the PRO will deliver output to large screens.

Having actually TRIED this type of tablet I quite liked it -- but would definitely look at the PRO model --price will be the key thing here --too expensive then I'll pay a little more for an ultrabook.

I originally hated tablets but the new Ms ones have changed the whole ball game --these unlike Ipads are USEABLE devices. The USB3 with a USB3 hub to add more ports seems a real Winner and having the micro sd card is great for a reasonable amount of removable local storage.

The base spec of the PRO will output full HD TV quality --and as you aren't watching a 48 inch or bigger monitor with your nose touching it - resolution should be fine --but I'd like to see what resolution is possible from the PRO's graphic card.

Now with Touch and a large monitor I can see the advantages -- I only do the touch on the tablet - avoids greasy smeary fingers on my nice monitor.

Ms have come up with a winner here --- still think though for a true desktop W7 is a better OS but on the tablet it fits perfectly.

A work colleague who has an Ipad really preferred the RT screen even with it's inferior resolution to the Ipad -- the RT was even easy to read in bright sunlight -- the Ipad was barely readable --I couldn't have used it for more than about 3 minutes -- and the rediculous Ipad stand --just breathe on it and it falls over.

I loved the pressure keyboard as well --I thought it would be horrid to use --but it wasn't. Took me about 5 mins to get the hang of it.

I couldn't get a UK QWERTY model though ( had a US one) but I'm sure international keyboards will become available for products released in different countries.

If I get the PRO I'll use it to RDP to Work VPN, home w2003 server and W7 systems.
Just wish the Metro stuff could be split so if I have them on a large screen I don't waste the O/P on a HUGE screen. Otherwise W8 just perfect for these devices. (RT looks just like W8 but you can't install W8 native apps -- a lot will actually install but won't run when you try and execute them). RDP via browser works fine.

The real drawback of the RT model at the moment is lack of playability of Video / movie files -- as you can't install Windows Native apps I couldn't install my standby -- VLC player and therefore had to rely on the Metro "Movie player" which didn't like AVI files at all --sure somebody will port VLC to ARM / the RT system

So I'll probably be buying myself a late Xmas present --the Ms Surf Pro. Available in Europe in January 2013.

Cheers
