    Hi there
I think if you try and check with CPU-Z it should show you what your computer is doing whatever Windows "Thinks it's doing".
The latest version of CPU-Z has been fixed for W8 and AMD processors.

Why are you assuming that Microsoft 'cut corners?' Yes, the OP is not being presented with an accurate depiction of the physical CPU, but the CPU architecture of the 8-core AMD is also different from previous AMD architectures (as far as I understand it, anyway). Do we know that MS had a sample of this when they built Windows 8? I'm not a Microsoft fanboy - as much as I love Winodws 8 and Windows Phone, I opted to use Linux instead of Windows XP and Windows Vista - I just think we should try for a little fairness.

come on , I have my 8 cores since more than a year now, between the Developer Preview and the final release they have plenty of time to buy one, lol Aside on a Servers 2012 Essential the task manager show 8 physical cores and 8 logical cores.

MS was to lazy to correct it on Windows 8, why peoples can't just accept it. Microsoft focus is on Tablets and Phone sales, they don't care about their desktop customers, they know corporations will not upgrade to 8 and they don't care. They just don't want Google and Apple get all the market of the toys ( tablets , phones)

Windows 8.1 uses more than 2 cores? in Performance & Maintenance
Back in 2008/9 I had the Intel Q6600 cpu and at that time games and OS barely could utilize more than 2 cores of a processor. How are things now? My straight forward question is whether windows 8.1 utilizes more than 2 cores? Does it make sense to upgrade to a quad core for a HTPC just for a fast...

I had a thought - I have had stable and unstable Windows 8 installations CP and RP, but the freezing for me has only occurred on machines with multicore processors. What are your experiences?
