It's a misunderstanding: the CPU is a quad-core with hyperthreading, don't know how AMD calls that because I have Intel but it's the same: your core number doubles with the logical processor count make it 4x2=8.

You have 8 logical processors, that's what you need to know.

A zoom of the thread starter's screenshot:

So the initial screenshot says it all, you just need to know a bit the details.

    Everything's OK.

You can right click on the processor graph in task manager and choose "show logical processors".
You should see all 8 of the graphs.
    Thanks for clearing that up!

This in no way hypertreading and logical cores, Microsoft is in the ditch ; AMD 8 cores use 4 modules with 2 Integer units in each, and those 2 integer units share same L2 , Microsoft Task Manager is wrong in the way they indicate it, those core are not logicals like in an Intel Hypertreading CPU, they are real and group by 2 , they just share the same L2 memories

    .

so if AMD have only 4 cores, and 8 logical cores how do you explain than none of the logical core have the same speed ?

Windows 8 Task Manager is misleading

and this is core temp for a AMD 8 cores and an Intel i7-2600k 4 cores , it show that Microsoft really mess up the task manager

My apologies. As I said, I have Intel CPU's so don't really know the AMD versions.

    Interesting.

So there are 8 cores but Task Manager misleads us.
If all cores are used, then there's no worry. But is too bad we cannot rely on Task Manager in this case.

On the first page, we addressed the physical architecture and how it is presented to Windows.

Then Microsoft as to review the Task Manager, this is not 4 but 8 physical cores. You have to represent what it is not what they think it is, from what I see, it's again laziness from Microsoft, they adapt the Task Manager to Intel CPU only. They really cut corners with Windows 8

It does say Physical Processors 8, but as far as I am aware it should also say it has 8 cores.

    Help would be greatly appreciated!

Right click on the graph (must be on the graph) and switch graph to "Logical Processors" it will show all cores...

That is incorrect. 'Logical processors' does not mean 'all cores.' For example, I have a dual-core i3 with hyper-threading. If I elect to show logical processors, I see four - that is, one for each thread, not one for each core.

Can we just agree that MS cut the corners and don't include a real representation of AMD 8 cores CPUs
