I have a sony vaio vpcf12thx/h 64x 4gb I7 nvidia 310m I upgraded from w7 ult to win 8 x64 pro. Whenever I put a usb device such as a flash drive or an external hard drive in any of my usb ports they wont show up under computer, the autoplay doesnt pop up, nothing. I hae gotten the external hard drive to show up a couple times but none of my flash drives will show up. Ive never had a problem wih this before.

Autoplay no longer works in USB devices. This is because of a wave of malware that happened a few years ago where USB devices were being infected and automatically running when inserted into a computer. There is no way to turn it back on.

You have to just open explorer and go to the drive.

I said that wrong. What I meant was the pop up box that gives you the option to start it or open the files, import, etc. But I almost alway s go into explorer/computer anyway. Eitrher way its not working.
