Hi there,

I am a sound engineer, I own a device called Focusrite Liquidmix which worked fine in Windows 7 64bit BUT only if it was installed in a firewire device which had LEGACY drivers. Something that you could easilly do in win7 with manual choice of the legacy drivers for the specific firewire card (in device manager).
In windows 8 the option is gone! No legacy drivers alternative.
What I did is use the win7 legacy drivers and I manually choose them but it didn't let me install them (unsigned drivers).
What I did next was some cmd commands with test signing and stuff (known commands to disable this thing) which also hasn't worked!
Final stop was to do the windows 8 restart in advance settings option where you can choose with F7 to disable signed drivers check. This finally worked.
The problem is that EVERY time I restart the driver again doesn't work and has a yellow signal in device manager. So I have to restart again in advanced settings, start with F7 and it works once again. So everytime I need to work on songs with this device which needs legacy drivers I have to do 2 time consuming restarts.
Any thoughts on how can I permanently have drivers signed check disabled in Windows 8?

Thanks in advance. This thing with legacy drivers mode is a problem for many many devices and people.

I understand that issue clearly because I encountered it before.

It depends how old the device is and if it still has support then the manufacturers need to make new signed versions for win8.
Some drivers were hard to find or not available at all.
Some time ago someone told me to look for drivers on catalog.update.microsoft.com and search the device name or the hardware ID's found in the detail section of the driver (device manager). Works with most of devices.

If you're lucky enough, you can find some signed drivers there.
Besides this link, there's the manufacturer's website but you're not finding much for Win8 or new OSes in general if the hardware is older.

Good luck

    That's basically it.
I will check this out, but I know the only way to work since win7 is through legacy drivers. So my only option for now is to find the command or the action needed from me to be made, so that win8 have permantly disabled the unsigned drivers thing.
I know it can be made cant find out how. :(

You may attempt using this site:

Downloads|Focusrite

Here is the direct Windows download according to the site:

Direct Windows|Focusrite
Name: liquid-mix3.00.exe

Hope any of this helps! :)

[EDIT] I have found it says it is "only compatible" with Windows 7 as of now.

Compatibility Search|Focusrite

Is this device a Liquid Mix 16? Assuming as the Liquid Mix HD is only compatible with XP, this may be your problem.
Maybe keep checking back for legacy updates.

Yeap these are the drivers. The problem is that the FIREWIRE needs to be with LEGACY drivers for these drivers to work. The problem which needs to be soved since this product is discontinued and I need to have it working always with a legacy firewire driver since windows 7, is to make the enabling unsigned drivers permanent.

Hopefully I can find a workaround, as many 8 options were moved into the Metro "Control Panel" through charms. :)

After spending several days getting my liquidmix 32 working in win 8.1, i'd recommend the following trouble shooting steps:

1. Verify that your firewire cards/ports work in the version of windows you have upgraded to. Check they show up as working properly in device manager, and then check that they work properly with another firewire device. Try all possible drivers that windows shows - as well as the windows legacy driver (which for win 8 and 8.1 you can download here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/usbcoreblog/archive/2014/09/10/announcing-the-availability-of-a-standalone-legacy-1394-ohci-firewire-package.aspx). test your firewire cards in different slots as this sometimes DOES make a difference. (Doing this taught me that a make of firewire card i was using didn't seem to work in windows 8 [i tried two instances of the card] and that even a working card doesn't necessarily work in all pcie slots!!!)

2. once you've verified that your firewire port/card is working with another firewire device, plug in the firewire device you are trying to get working. If it doesn't show up in device manager, then try each of the windows drivers - particularly the legacy driver (that's the only one that the liquid mix seems to work with).

3. If it still doesnt work, unplug it and remove all the device drivers and software you have installed. then unplug the device and follow the instructions for installing from scratch. FOr the liquid mix this involved leaving the device unconnected, installing the software and driver, and then connecting the device when prompted.

4. If you still have issues, contact tech support and get them to recommend a brand of firewire card that they know works with the device - different cards have different chipsets, not all of which will play nicely with your device in question. Alternatively, buy sevearl different cards from amazon, try them all, and send back the ones that dont work!!!!

Hope this helps! and for the record for anyone googling it, Liquid mix / liquidmix 32 works perfectly with 64-bit windows 8.1 / win 8.1 and cubase 8 pro - but you must use the legacy driver, install the liquid mix software without the device connected (until prompted to plug it in) and have made sure your firewire card works with other firewire devices in windows 8.1 (and have made sure your 64bit and 32 bit vst dlls are in different folders and that you have alterted cuabse to the correct vst folder paths in plugin manager...) :D
