Hi there
I've found THIS to be the best way of combining the FAST SSD drive with a reasonable amount of HDD storage on a laptop - provided the laptop has a USB3 port. (note a USB3 port not standard USB2).
1) Get a SATA==>USB3 connector (not the USB 2 ones. -- they are quite cheap and look something like this
Amazon.co.uk: usb 3 to sata
2) install windows on an SSD drive .
3) connect it to the usb3 port on the computer and boot it -- will boot almost as fast as native sata --USB3 is decently FAST !!!.
That way if I'm in a static place I boot from the USB3 SSD attached device.
If I'm travelling -- then storage is more important than speed -- so I just boot from the laptop's internal HDD. -- You can get decent laptop spinners now of up to 1 TB !!!!. Saves also carrying 2 or 3 smaller external HDD's. The SSD is small and light -- no problem taking that in the computer bag.
That way the 120GB SSD isn't limiting by only having 120 GB.
Windows hasn't asked for re-activation either whether its booted from the SSD or HDD.
Cheers
