How do I get just a list of active windows within an application?

How do I get just a list of active windows within an application such as in the following image?

On my win7 system when I mouse over an icon in the taskbar I get a list of active windows for that icon. I'd like to get the same on my win8 system.

I haven't tested this in Windows 8 yet, but it should work for you to have a "list mode" instead of a "taskbar thumbnail preview" when you hover over the icons of opened items on the taskbar.

. . . but not in Win-8 x64

I want to disable the taskbar thumbnail popups in Win-8
