Lock Screen - is there a way to do this?

Is there any way to keep the lock screen, but have it skip the login step after clicking? I really like the look of it, and would like to keep it, but I hate having to type my password each time. I know how to disable the password prompt, but right now, it removes the lock screen as well.

Yes. Type in Power Options in Start, click on the Settings tab on the search sidebar, and click on the link. From your power options, most likely it's on Balanced, click on Change power options or settings. (I can't remember exactly as I'm on my Windows Phone) From there, you should see another link that says Changed advanced power settings or such. A little window pops up and there's another link that says, Change settings that are currently unavailable. Then, there's a little drop down item that says Password. Click, and then click on the setting from Yes to No. That should work.

It seems like the only way to not have it do that is if you don't have a password at all. The purpose of the lock screen is simply to keep your PC locked out from other users.

    Hi there

    Hi all

I believe the method suggested above doesn't work - I haven't tested it myself but can confirm THIS method works for bypassing original logon screen at boot (at least on my W8 Enterprise RTM x-64 -- rather surprised that an Enterprise version would allow a user to bypass the password login screen - but there we are - makes sense on a HOME computer but certainly not at Enterprise level).

it bypasses the image and logon screen is the same command that worked in W7 and takes you straight to the start screen (note not the desktop)
from the Dos box just type in netplwiz

You'll then get a screen user accounts
uncheck the Users must enter a password etc to use this computer.

You'll see another screen prompting for the default user and the password.

Now when you re-boot you'll be taken straight into the start screen.(Again not the desktop).

As for exiting sleep mode / screen saver mode I think you also need to turn the password prompt off as well.

LOCK though always enforces password re-entry -- that's the whole point of it so you'll have to live with that one - but at least you can bypass the sign in screen after boot. If LOCK and SLEEP are linked in the kernel then you've had it for that purpose. I can't help you there as I'm not a W8 kernel developer.

    Cheers
