Solved Color scheme

how can i find the same color scheme tab which we were able to find easily in Windows XP by just right clickng on the desktop and selecting the suitable tabs.
I wan to go to that tab as i want to change my color scheme from 32 bit to 16 bit as i was able to do in the XP
please help???

You could use the same method from Windows 7 below in Windows 8 to do so if 16-bit is available.

ohhh Brink thanks for the reply...
but there is a problem...i followed all the steps correctly on that forum...
but at last step THERE IS NO DROP DOWN MENU for COLOR
I mean there is nothing at the downside no such type of option now what to do???
or else i should assume that windows 8 has no option for 16bit color depth setting
please help???

Unfortunately, I just found this statement below from Microsoft.

System color depth

Desktop Composition cannot run unless the color depth is set to 32 bits per pixel. In Windows 7 the color depth of the system can be changed in these scenarios:

•An end user uses the Windows Display control panel or a 3rd party control panel to change the system color

•An end user runs an app that changes the color depth of the system through a public API​

Unlike Windows 7, Windows 8 does not support color depth other than 32 bits per pixel. The user can no longer change the color depth of the system by using the control panel.
In addition, app developers cannot use APIs to change the color depth of the system. Windows 8 will detect apps that try to change the color depth of the system to less than 32 bits per pixel, and inform the user that an app compatibility shim must be applied to run the apps. After confirmation from the user, the app compatibility shim is applied and the shim virtualizes the low color mode to the app while keeping the system running at 32 bits per pixel.

You can also keep using the max 32bit or 24bit if available and only set 16bit color mode for the (older) programs that require it:
The switch will happen automatically and you don't need to manually click back and forth between the settings.

Thanks for the confirmation, I was expecting this answer as in Windows 8 Microsoft had done some dramatic changes and this one of them.

Then we misunderstood something here: it needs 16bit execution mode (DOS mode) NOT 16bit resolution depth!
DOS programs use 16bit, then you have Windows in 32 bit (x86) or 64 bit (x64) but this has nothing tho do with colors.

Anyway the two 16bits can be achieved in a virtual environment so your problem can be solved easily: (there are many solutions but one should be enough, see below).

You'll need to run this in a virtual machine. And there you can set the color mode to 16bit color.

The program needs 16bit execution (DOS mode) and should work in OSes starting with WinXP and lower.
Use one of these programs that work in Win8 is MS Hyper-V, Oracle VirtualBox or VMware Player.
You'll need to choose one of those older Windows versions to virtualize, one where Turbo-C worked well.

Regarding 16bit color mode:
Note that the graphic drivers of VMware Player DON'T have 16bit on Win98/Me (use Win 2000 or XP).
VirtualBox supports 16bit well in 2000 and XP. However it doesn't have additions for Win98/Me.

You can also try in Win8 using one of these;
There's a chance it works in DosBox as well.
Or enable 16bit support on Win8 (control panel) if you're using 32bit Windows 8.


The choice is up to you.
