Hi there
Is there any way of increasing the number of HORIZONTAL tiles in a group on larger monitors which seem to have a maximum of TWO. (On smaller screens you get 4 or even 5).

On a small screen I get 4 across which seems actually better. The other point is can I make the Group names clearer - Text would be great to have say in ORANGE or Brilliant WHITE. - Screenshot from el cheapo 21 inch monitor (destined for The Tip next week) but I'm at a colleagues house in London for the weekend.

I've re-arranged the tiles in a way that seems much better now now - rather than say have OFFICE all in office apps I've re-arranged by what I use most such as EXCEL, Powerpoint, Outlook same with Multi-media, Utilities etc rather than application specific. Seems MUCH easier to work this way and less cluttered. For things I use rarely I can search the apps. There's really no need to have all the applications grouped by application -- but by the convenience of how you use them. Slightly different to "Classic Menu" but I'm not hating this method of working --takes several "Goes" to get things in decent order and where corporates will fail is that everybody will have different "Favourites" and therefore to "Standardize" on tile could be a nightmare.

I don't hate this anything like as much as when I started but it's still a LOT OF WORK to get it "Useable" --For most people it won't be a straight OOBE job.

I've removed all the MS Metro apps from the start screen -- can't see myself using things like Weather etc on a COMPUTER --got a smart phone for all those type of apps anyway.

Enc screenshot of tiles -- there was some registry Hack to increase nr of tiles in a horizontal group but I can't find it any more.

cheers
jimbo

Hi there
Thanks

This stuff is more useable than I thought --- you need to be RUTHLESS in eliminating programs from the start that you rarely use - and that's a bit of a learning experience and trial and error. I'm beginning to get the hang of it -- but we really could do with a bit more allowed customisation of the start screen and the tiles - especially for "Standard" applications installed via the classic install process.

Fortunately anything deleted from the Start screen by mistake can be re-retrieved by looking in the applications search or even finding the actual file location and then sending back to the start screen again.

Cheers

Hi guys,

how do you get the titles above the tiles per group. Maybe this was a topic on the board, but I do not know how to get them.

thanks

Jeff

Hello Jeff,

You can drag the tiles to any order you like from within a group of tiles, but you can't move a tile above a group itself. The tiles can only be within a group if that's what you mean.
