A fix for border padding?

    window border padding/snapping/shadow issues?

    What the HELL is with the thick, invisible ''padding'' around the window borders in Windows 8? Is there any fix for this yet?

    Hello lilsting,

    I played with the registry settings below in Windows 8 that would normally change the window border width in Windows 7, but in Windows 8, the same settings would only change the width of the title bar (top border) of windows instead now. It had no effect on the rest of the window borders.

    I'll keep playing, but so far nothing.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics

    BorderWidth string value

    Data = -15 to -1500
    Default = -15

    How To Change Window Border Size In Windows 8

    Just found this little app to change the thick border padding. I've yet to try this out on my puter as I am on my Windows Phone.

    Hello Coke Robot,

    Sadly it doesn't work in Windows 8 RP. It doesn't even change the top border as I posted above for the registry settings for this. Even with Run as administrator.

    Thanks guys, but also remember it's not just the border thickness I'm looking to trim, but also the transparent ''padding'' around the actual boarders which Windows 8 has introduced (and shown in the opening post's picture). Those really suck.

    Coke Robot,

    Nice. Do the registry settings I posted above work to change all borders now as well in the RTM? You may need to log out/in to apply them to see.

    I believe that is the Show shadows under windows setting in Visual Effects. Unchecking it will turn that off.

    Yep, the registry setting works. Some FAT borders at 20 for data value.
