    Metro disabler

Some of you probably know there is already one available from our Chinese friends - it's not perfect , but it's a start.

    There is hope

    I just ran it.

    No problem with Avast

    No problem with MSE .

    It works !!!!

    I clicked the desktop tile.

Once at the desktop, dble click Fxxkmetro.

    Metro gone - thank heavens.
I might be able to use this o/s now.

Please click the link to the creators post - it will show him it is appreciated and keep him working on it ( it is Chinese )

Microsoft already built one into Win8 IMHO - it's called the 'Desktop' button and is the only Start button I ever press. :P But it is good news that hope is alive for Metro to be sent the way of the dodo, in case MS don't leave us an installation or registry option.

I am sure MS have no intention of giving us any choices of our own.

We can have the "choices" they think are good for us.

Have you tried modding any of the files, or building a decent pe?

Talk about locking down - it is a real pain.

That is what is so repugnant.

China - you know travel is great way to narrow the mind.

If you are wondering how it works .. metro is an explorer process - the app. kills the thread

just double-click and the horror of the Metro interface will be gone , you can enjoy control of your computer

I cannot understand this at all. If Microsoft let users completely disable Metro with a registry hack, everyone will be happy and will buy the software, which means money for microsoft.

    The reason is quite simple.

If MS let you avoid Metro - you won't be constantly faced with exhortations to go online to the MS clouds.

That is why - so they can keep thrusting their aggressive marketing at you.

They are hoping the average user will not realize they are being manipulated.

I can live with Metro, but it's very good to have an option.

Why would anyone pay money for Windows HE? The Storage Spaces feature is the only thing interesting to me. Making Media Center a paid add-on is an active disincentive, as I still need it for CableCARD. The whole point of Windows HE is to try to force a convergence between desktop and mobile devices. Take Metro out, and you have Windows 7, only crapified, and there's no reason for anyone to want it. I think PC and laptop sales are ultimately going to suffer if Windows HE is all you can get on them.
