Yes, I am afraid laptop sales will suffer - precisely because they come with win8.

I believe some manufacturers are already cutting back production and jobs.

I expect there will be the right to upgrade to win7 - but the average user doesn't want to mess around trying to find out how to do that.

Maybe machines will be available that have already been upgraded to win7 , in an attempt to limit the damage.

You will have to experiment with starting it up - the idea is get to desktop and dble click the app.

You can try setting it as a scheduled tasjk , or in startup folder, etc.

If you are using Classic shell - you may need to run this first - work it out as best you can.

Hopefully, it will improve to the point where we don't even need to see the start screen at all.

    Thanks SIW2 for the link.
I'll better install an extra start menu if the startscreen goes out.

I would be EXTREMELY cautious about running anything from China. The vast majority of malware comes from that region, and they use any excuse they can to get you to install their stealth stuff. It can look for bank account numbers, passwords, and even uses your machine to commit acts of cyber-terrorism.

I know what you think. "I'm a nobody, who cares if I get infected?" There are millions of others out there that think the same and together they form a giant array of resources for them to use for spam, cracking passwords, etc... you could be complicit in an attack that even kills people.

It may sound like i'm exaggerating, but I'm not. These criminals are becoming very sophisticated, and they prey on people who frequent "grey" sites.

Could be an FP, google and see who else is using it - there is a thread at MDL - seems fine.

The reason why Microsoft is forcing Metro is to force all companies to pay the extra licensing cost to get Metro certified apps. If they allowed the desktop, most people would pop their flash drives with all the pirated Win7 stuff and load it up on Win8 and not cared about Win8 Metro apps.
