Solved Custom icons for Recycle Bin

OK, I hate the default icons. They are nuggin' fasty. So I want to change the icons. Problem is, the icons don't change unless you refresh the desktop.

I use a blank icon for when the bin is empty. All you see is "Recycle Bin", looks like there's no icon there. The full icon is a full moon. Which means there's stuff in the bin.

I know that you have to run regedit and get into the Registry. Then you have to navigate to the correct keys to slightly modify. I've done it before on XP. Problem is, I can't remember just where you need to go into the Registry. If memory serves, 1 key has to be edited and a zero put on the end. The other one is the same but with a 1.

Please take pity on me and help. I've had a real nasty week. 15hrs trying to repair because an update to hwinfo hosed my system. Had to take it to the shop. $200 later, it's working.

Won't go into details unless someone asks. Trust me, it was a full blown nightmare. Word to the wise. Run as fast as you can, do not walk from Best Buy. Do not pass Go and don't collect $200.

OK.
I wanted to use custom icons for full & empty recycle bin.
Finally, someone here enlightened me.
The icons need to be in a .dll file.
He made me a .dll file with the needed icons in it.
I am very grateful to him since I find doing something like that a bit over my head.
I have Microangelo & Resource Hacker.
I tried adding icons to existing .dll files & failed. :(
Creating a .dll file made my tiny brain hurt.
Just stupid I guess. :(

And I get this message when trying to use Display to change Desktop icons.
I Googled it & tried all suggestions to fix it & failed-

But with Microangelo on Display I can change the icons-

This is a bit complicated so I hope someone can help you with it further. :)

A note.
He did use an icon editor to touch the icons up so they looked better. :)

Notice- These are icon sets.
They end in .ico but contain various sizes for displaying properly. :)

I don't think that Microsux knows how to tell time. Searching said to download Microsoft Visual Studio Community 2015. Which is what I did. Then installed. Had to reboot. Then the window comes up saying it's getting set up, will take a few minutes. How long is a "few minutes" for Microsux. 5-15 minutes? I don't think so. 2hrs later the window was still up there.:mad::mad: No close button, killed through Task Manager.

I've done the regedit on both , XP and this box with Windows 8. Worked like a dream. What I've forgotten is which registry folder/key that I have to navigate to. I've NEVER had to build a .dll file. Not once.

Online search isn't helping at all.

And what's wrong with Notification? I got no email telling me there was a response to my post. And yes, I have it set to notify immediately by email.

Had a brainfart and forgot to mention that I'd also done the registry edit on Windows 8,
