How do I uninstall UxStyle safely?

I'm on Windows 8, and I have UxStyle Core Beta 0.2.2.0, which I want to uninstall. I initially switched away from my custom theme (but didn't delete it, not quite sure how since I initially installed this years ago), and restarted. Next, I ran the UxStyle uninstaller in programs and features. Upon rebooting from that, I got the "black screen" error, where my monitors just constantly flicker on and off after the Windows logo displays. It doesn't actually get to the login screen after that.

I had to use a system restore to get my computer operational again, as the troubleshooting services failed to initialize. The system restores also told me they failed(error 0x800700b7), so I kept trying to restore to different points. Eventually, when I restarted, despite being told that the restore failed, the computer booted up properly. Not sure what happened there. Either way, this means that the program is back on my computer, and I want to get it off. What do I do?

You need to run SFC and DISM after uninstalling. UXStyles and other theme patchers make some major changes that need to be cleaned up on Wi8.1. I know because I usually patch. Just follow the guide I prepared(from different sources such as TechNet) below.

You can try fixing the files by copy & pasting in an Admin
    Command Prompt:

    Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup&sfc/scannow&Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth&sfc/scannow&pause

And let it run through then
reboot and run it again to check if it cleaned everything.
    It
may take a while depending on your hardware(HDD or SSD), and it may
appear to freeze at 20% on the third part, just be patient and
    let in run out.

: only 2 false positives will show up(this is the result of the GWX software as Windows has nothing from the original OS software to compare it toŽ) and they are(in red):

This update enables the Diagnostics Tracking Service in Windows 8.1,
    Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), and Windows
Server 2008 R2 SP1. This tracking service collects data about
    functional issues in Windows.

This update contains the following two manifests that are occasionally
updated by the Diagnostic Tracking Service:
    • telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json
    • utc.app.json
The two files are marked as static files in the update. When an advanced
user runs the System File Checker Tool (sfc.exe), the files are
unintentionally flagged as corrupted. There is no impact or
corruption on a device that is running this update, and this issue
will be fixed in a later service update.

I'm running Windows 8, not 8.1, will that still work? I've been reluctant to upgrade to 8.1 in case the custom themes mess up the installation. Also, do I have to do anything with my existing custom theme (which requires UxTheme to function) before running that? Like do I want to select a default theme and figure out how to delete it?

Just use a normal windows theme or any one without a patcherŽ, and run it, yes it will work in 8 too.

If you want to upgrade you can do a clean install and not worry about this "mess".

Try downloading the windows 8.1 install media

I switched to the default theme, and I deleted the files for the custom theme I was using. I rebooted, ran the UxStyle uninstaller, then ran the DSIM command, and once that completed, I ran sfc /scannow. Rebooted, and still got the black screen issue. Anything else I can try?

Did the theme pack have any programs that required registry setting to be applied to start at boot? I mean like OldNewExplorer or Transparency or AERO? They usually come with a click to apply and one to revert.

I believe this was the theme I used, and it's just something you drop into the themes folder Windows 8 Default Style by MrGRiM01 on DeviantArt

I'm also running Classic Shell 4.0.2, and Windows 8 Start Screen Customizer 1.3.8. Wouldn't be surprised if one of those could have been causing issues. They were both exe installers so I'm not sure exactly what they change.

    Black Screen Bug!!

Please remove old theme from Aero folder and delete the .theme file and add the new pack directly to the theme folder

Always Create a System Restore Point before making any Changes to Your PC.
    States here.

Have you deleted the files from C:\Windows\Resources\Themes?
You will need to download and install UxStyle Core Beta for windows 8 to use this theme, just extract the theme and put the msstyles file in the aero folder "C:WindowsResourcesThemesaero" and the theme file in the theme folder "C:WindowsResourcesThemes"
Also the AERO Glass needs to be turned off and Uninstalled or gotten rid of.

I deleted the files in aero, but not in themes. I'll try it again, making sure to clear everything this time and get back to you on that.

As for AERO Glass, do you mean the start screen customizer?

I am working on making proper themes for Windows 8 but waiting for some better tools to hack it up a bit more first.

I have managed to move the details pane back to the bottom though (where it should be) if anyone is interested I will show you how.
