I tried to run a custom Windows 7 theme on Windows 8. The particular theme needs the system files to be patched, and I had not done so yet. I ran the theme anyway, just to see what would happen.
It wasn't good at all. I could not open any Explorer windows whatsoever, right click on the desktop had an empty menu with no choices and I had to pull some stunts to get things to be well again.
Anyhow, here is a screenshot from when it was messed up. I couldn't even save the screenshot at all because of Explorer being messed up. I made the screenshot then saved after I fixed things:
