Can't change account pic or lock screen wallpaper?

When I go to the charms bar> Settings> Change PC settings, I can't change the lock screen wallpaper. If I click on browse, this happens below, and it freezes. I've tried the same thing for changing the profile pic, and again it freezes.

    Please help?

    Hello Defski,

You would need to turn off the lock screen slide show since you only have one image. This will stop the error message in your screenshot above.

Lock Screen Slide Show - Turn On or Off in Windows 8.1

Please go ahead and post a screenshot showing what it does when you try to change your user account picture. For now, see if anything in the tutorial below may be able to help.

Same thing happens. Box pops up for a bit, then disappears.

Looks like it's not opening the browse screen completely. You can see part of it at the bottom, but nothing above it where you would select the images from.

For now, let's see if running a sfc /scannow command may help if this may be an issue with a corrupted or modified system file.

If this just started happening recently, then you could also do a system restore using a restore point dated before this started to hopefully undo and fix it.

I tried sfc /scannow. It just spat out a insanely long CBS file.
However, I tried changing my lock screen wallpaper in safe mode, and it worked! What does this mean? That something in the windows services is causing this?

Does it still work when you are booted in normal mode in Windows?

Usually when it works in Safe Mode and not normal mode, there's a program or driver that's interfering with it.

Nope. I have an idea of what could be causing it though.

I found the service causing the problem. It was LucidSvc. Does the Windows 8 settings program have a folder in the \Windows\ folder?

Here's a thread about that service. Appears to be part of some software included with your MSI motherboard.

    Yup! That's my thread.
Now I just need to know if the Settings app has an exe I can blacklist!
