Solved Start Menu - Drop Shadow for Text

So I've scoured the internet in hopes of finding a solution to my problem but no luck. Hopefully I will have better luck in a forum like this.

So here is my issue. I have a light colored background that looks fine with the tiles in the windows 8.1 start menu, but if I click the down arrow in the bottom left, the one that takes you to the list of apps installed, the text next to each program is basically washed out and unreadable (see attached screenshot). Does anyone know of any trick to add drop shadows to that text? It drives me crazy as I usually have light colored backgrounds.

I like that background too! try to check the Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop Visual Effects option will add the icon text shadow:

midou35000, that's where I went to immediately thinking that would resolve it, but it turns out it only adds drop shadows to the desktop icons. That's what's really frustrating because I have the same background on my desktop as my start menu, and my desktop is perfectly fine to read with the drop shadows, but my start menu.....nooooooooo. lol.

If so that is not possible (till now) so you have to change the background to a darker one, am sorry.

How light is your image? The Desktop/Start/Apps screens should dim in stages!?

That's strange; mine doesn't dim ????

It turns out Windows 8 Start Screen Customizer was the culprit. It's what took my desktop background and gave it a Gaussian blur when I went to the start menu. It also removed that dimming apparently.

While I would prefer to have the Gaussian blur, at least removing it gave me back the functionality that was builtin.
