I'm new to this group so I may make many errors. If so, first I'm sorry and second call me to task so I'll know better next time.

I've attached, what is to me, the ugliest screen MS has ever forced upon it's users. I have no idea what it's called so, help me by letting me know. (For now I'll call it the W8 Power-Up Pre-Log-In Screen - W8PUPLI screen). Since I don't know what it's called I have no way to check all of the prior messages about/for it.
Is there any way to get rid of this hideous beast?

My thanks in advance.

Hello David, and welcome to Eight Forums.

In Windows 8 and 8.1 there are two "Lock" screens.

  • The user lock screen is the one that displays when a user locks the PC while still signed in to Windows. Each user is able to change their lock screen background image to an image of their choice.
  • The default Lock screen image is the one that displays when there are no users currently signed in to Windows.

The tutorial below can help show you how to change this default lock screen.

Hope this helps, :)
