I'm glad you asked. On the contrary. I like what's underneath it.
Every metro app tile, every installed desktop program can be accessed by keystrokes
while looking at the start screen and showing results on the right side
in 811 or from the apps view while looking at it.

If one has an interest in live tiles, then fine. But I don't spend time looking at live tiles.
There is no such thing as a proper start screen.

Problem is, from my perspective, is that the menu is in apps and many are convinced that recreating
what is in apps on the start screen is what they should be doing.
Anyone can do what they like.

Also, I personally have no use for cloud service subscriptions
or metro mail services, weather, news, twitter feeds, ... whatever... so notifications are not needed.

I can see a use for professionally designed live tiles in a corporate / education / government environment,
but my preference is to use the sorted metro menu apps organization and pin only what is needed today or none at all. Everything can be accessed by keystrokes.

I am currently using server 2012 which uses a Windows 8.0 style metro menu.
In 811, from the apps screen, just pressing a few keys brings up a list.
Since release, I have created hundreds of different start screen styles.

I doubt that it is well known, that copying shortcuts of anything and everything to the metro menu will make everything available by keystrokes. But that is a problem if one has a problem with clicking or typing.

Groups were created to minimize the chaos caused by the start screen Rubik's cube puzzle.
    Groups cannot automatically sort however.
The Apps view sorts automatically just like a menu.

I sometimes still use a customized floating desktop menu just for giggles,
that can be turned on and off like notepad and reads hidden folders.
