The start screen is basically a dock.
I am liking these more than icons or desktop docks (Object Dock, Rocket Dock).

Hello tst. I get bored quickly and often and am always changing themes and schemes.

There is a free metro app called Background Wallpapers HD
that has thousands of free wallpapers usable on the start screen.

Just a ballpark figure, my collection is up to about 10,000 wallpapers.
Even so, I like to go plain. Sometimes a desktop and start screen that is plain is less stressful or distracting.
My preference is to create personalized tiles.
How's Finland? I am across the pond in New England.

I'm using a free Metro app too called Wallbase 8, which points to Computer wallpapers / Wallbase.cc. Their collection of HD wallpapers is massive.

I know nothing of New England except what I've red from Stephen King's novels. Here in Finland we have spring time at last.

EDIT: Anyone with the new 8.1 update that knows how to changed just the start wallpaper and not both the start and the desktop wallpaper together? Either they removed that feature or it moved because I can't find it anymore... O.o

The easiest way to have different walls on start and desk is by using Stardock Décor 8 or other similar program.
The option to use Desktop Wallpaper must be unticked in the Taskbar and Navigation properties.
(right click the taskbar select properties)
