I'd suggest making a thread in General Discussion for these kinds of questions.

This is one here is for pretty Start Screens.

Booting to the Desktop seems awfully trivial to not upgrade.... But there are a few pieces of software out there that do that, as well as I think making a task at login to do such.

Welcome to Windows EightForums, bgraae. It's good to have you aboard.

I dual boot for now until I update my Office. Perhaps you could dual boot or run 8 in a VM. I suggest you read through this thread to help you make up your mind: Suggested Steps To Take Installing And Setting Up Windows 8

For making 8 more like 7:

Start Menu 8. Like Start8 but free (and arguably better)

    Welcome to EightForums, Revera.

Very nice, but no. It's the desktop. Windows 8 is a different approach to an OS for computing. It boots to a Start Screen. It was created for a specific reason. As you can see above, I have no problem with users making it into what they want. I'm totally about freedom of choice, but please don't twist around the technicalities. One can't make a 747 jetliner out of car. One can put wings on it and call it a 747, but it will always be a car.

Hello everyone. New her. I am happy to see other people putting time and effort into setting up the best start screen possible. I was really determined too. Until I replaced/added the old "start menu." I then have absolutely no use for the start screen, so I havent done anything more to it. Here is 2 pictures of mine (that I dont use.)

I also had another layout, with the lies inverted. It was quite nice too.

Well, I love this forum, and Im glad to be here. I have to do a fresh install of Win8 AGAIN...and I'm gonna have to do all the little hacks all over again :'(
