A Start Screen on a laptop I'm working on. Stardock has done it again! The latest Decor8 puts the time on Start.
I do like having the time on the start screen (I had a app that puts the time in a tile, but it was sort of unreliable), but i don't need any of the other features and $5 is too much for me.

As for customization I do have IObit's Start menu 8 installed, but I barely use it. it's faster to just hit the windows key and start searching (though Menu 8 does override the menu key in desktop, but that's usually fine)
Whoa! That is a lot of games you installed!

I've finally come around to Windows 8, it's not so bad.

Alright, after months of complaining and headaches and being generally terrified of change and not willing to learn something new...I have finally sat down and customized Windows 8 and without any 3rd party tools whatsoever I have something that is truly awesome. I<3 Windows 8 now and nobody can't never make me change my mind.

no need for start menu. I just created about 150 desktop shortcuts. then I pinned about 30 things to the taskbar.

LOL! I sure the hay hope that Blue, 9, or whatever works for you.

You may like this; I installed Bing Live Desktop. So now when I boot, I get about 10 seconds or so to check out info on my Start Screen then then the desktop portal opens when Bing Desktop opens. Or when the Start screen appears I push enter to open Windows Mail since it's my first tile. Or tile #2, #3, etc. Regardless, the desktop still opens in the background so no need for a desktop tile.
