    Library Icon

Is there an equivalent way to place the library icon on the desktop in Windows 8 (not a shortcut) as is possible with Windows 7 using a registry hack?

Thanks thats how I did it in Win 7. But doing the registry change, just brought my user files icon (folder with person) on the desktop, not the library icon? Mike

    Does it open Libraries?

If so, then you can use step 7 in the tutorial below to restore the default Libraries icon.

No I just removed it by going into personallise, desktop icons and removing the tick in the user files box. I will re-edit the setting back using regedit. Then try the downloadable file to see if that does anything different. It used to work ok on my Windows 7 system, I am now using Win 8.1 64bit.

Odd. This should add the Libraries desktop icon, and not "User's Files".

When you test it next, see what it opens despite the icon.

Doing it manually the { ........ } value was different. However, using the bat file download it works perfectly, thanks. Incidentially, strange thing is - this is a new install of win 8.1, and the library icon in the task bar has always brought up the library files plus drives and networks mapped - unlike the Windows 7 one. But the new desktop library icon just brings up libraries which is what is should do. Thanks again. Mike

    You're most welcome Mike.

If you wanted the File Explorer icon on your taskbar to open to Libraries, then you could use an option in the tutorial below to add Libraries to the navigation pane to have it do so.
