Hi PcRat,

Open Regedit

Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.rtf

Expand .rtf

If you see a Word.RTF.8, expand it as well and you should see a folder named "ShellNew".

Right-click the"ShellNew" folder and click New > String Value. Rename the string made to "NullFile" without the quotations. Close Regedit.

Right-click your desktop and click New > ... you should see a "RTF Document". This may or may not open directly with WordPad. If it doesn't, you need to set the default program for .RTF documents as WordPad.

I don't have it in my right click context. But I chose Wordpad as my default for Txt programs, through the Control panel (Default programs). But maybe you are needing something a little more comprehensive??
