Is there a way to do this? (video length in File Explorer)

I'm on Win8.1. Is there way when I select a video file for it to show the length of the video in the bottom status bar? I mean the info is avaliable in the properties > details right click menu for the file.

Would this involve hacking the previous Win7 bottom details pane back into Win8.1 File Explorer? I saw a thread for that here, but I couldn't figure-out how to make it work correctly by following the manual instructions. I ended-up having to plug my hardrive into another pc as a usb drive in order to repair the system file.

hmm... that's not quite what I want.

Ignore the 'details' sort columns in the content area even though I'm in 'large images' view mode; that's a seperate .dll hack called 'explorer7fixes.dll' which I use. What I'm hoping for is to see the video's length in the bottom status bar whilst in viewing modes other than details, as shown in this mock-up below. Is there a way to do this?

Edit: Oh, I forgot this laptop only has Win8 not 8.1 on it, if that makes any difference.

I'm afraid that I'm not aware of a way other than using the Details pane or a 3rd party file viewer that has that feature. :(

You might see how Explorer++ or FreeCommander may work.

Found Old-New-Explorer. OldNewExplorer - make your 8.1 explorer work like Win7/8 one - Windows 8 - MSFN Forum

Apparently it doesn't alter any system files, just adds a shell extension (registers a .dll file, simillar to my previous 'explorer7fixes' dll file, I think).

It works for restoring the bottom details pane, which shows the video length. Here's hoping that nothing bad happens when I restart or shut down the laptop, lol.

This might help you out :OldNewExplorer

Makes the Explorer in Window 8 and 8.1 perform like the Explorer in Windows 7.

The program is in beta at the moment but I am using it on Windows 8.1 at the moment and can find no bugs at all.
