Hey guys,
I'm wondering if there is a way to change default search option - "Settings" to "Everywhere".
I'm using Windows 8.1. It's very uncomfortable after WinKey+W to use mouse to change search options.

Hello upf,

I believe if you go here you can disable the online search option and that will only give you the internal search results (even though it still shows "everywhere"):

Go to PC settings> Search and Apps> disable Bing

Just an FYI that I am not a Metro or apps fan but this works for me.

Good luck.

Thanks for replay but does not work for me . After disabling Bing there is still "Settings" in first place.

I don't understand your response. What doesn't work and what settings are you referring to? Please be specific.

Those setting are greyed-out so they do not apply because Bing is disabled.

Sorry for my bad English :) . What I mean is that, the search bar on the top have a little drop-down list with several options like Everywhere, Settings, Files etc. When user calls searchBar by default the search is set to "Settings", which is unwanted. I would like to change it to "Everywhere".

Go to your start screen and type "search" (while on the screen). Once the search box pops up, type "search" into the search box but do not exectute the search. Just lest the "suggestions show up like so:

One more thing. Your specs are listed as Win 8. So are you absolutely sure you are on 8.1?

OK, so thanks for that. Now, did you try my previous suggestion and could you post a screenshot of that as well?

Hold on a second! When I access the Win key + W method, I get the same results as you; however, when I access it via the start screen it gives one the options you are looking for:

Here's the solution (now that I fully understand the issue)! Use Win key + Q:

Hope you are satisfied that this solves your issue. Good luck.
