Windows 8.1 - Lock Screen Slideshow fails to run

Hi

I hope one of you experts can advise!

I'm running a relatively modern desktop, with a SSD dedicated to my operating system; and have just upgraded to Windows 8.1 64 bit, from Windows 8:confused:

Having selected the option to run a slideshow on my Lock Screen, using images from a specified folder, I find that when I boot up, only the default image is displayed - The slide show does not run.
:(

However, if I return to the Lock Screen setting up page, and press the Winkey and L keys simultaneously, I find that my PC returns to the Lock Screen, and the slide show runs perfectly.
:)

So why does the slideshow not run, from boot up!

Hello Theo,

In Windows 8/8.1, there are two lock screens.

One is for the current user that is signed in and locked the PC.

The other is the default lock screen when no user is signed in.

The desktop slideshow will only play on the lock screen for the user that has it turned on, signed in, and locked the PC.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Hi Shawn,

Thank you for your message, but I am a little confused!

I am the only user of the PC, and as I understand the Administrator - There are no other users.

So how do I access the Lock Screen for the default lock Screen, if this is required!

Theo

There's not a lock screen slide show when there's no user signed in. There's only the lock screen background when no users are signed in.

To see the lock screen slide show, you must be signed in to you account, then lock the PC. :(

Hi Shawn.

Thank you for explaining; I now understand - The slideshow only runs when someone is logged in, and when that user has locked the PC, by presumably pressing the "WinKey an L", simultaneously!

I think that it is a pity that MS has not allowed the slideshow, as set by the Administrator, to run, when the PC first boots up!

Thanks again, for the explanation

Theo

You're most welcome Theo.

Yeah, it would be nice to have an option to set a lock screen slide show for the default one as well.
