Metro tile maddness

I've been reading on how to set color of the metro tiles. Curious question:
How does one create a custom tile for their application?

All the metro apps have cool tiles. When I create one visual studio 11, all I get is the standard black box with the star and the app title.

Anyone know how these app developers get the cool looking tiles with graphics, wording and stuff?

Thanks Guy. Reading thru that will keep me busy for the weekend. At first glance it looks like a guideline for program developers. But that is OK.

I went through the link you provided. I'm certainly on the right track. These things are kind of buried...Took me a few to wrap my mind around the logic. I can make custom tiles, splash screens and logos now within my apps. Just a matter of finding where things are stored.

Great read!!

Chris, Would you mind making a tutorial - then we need not all wade thru that many pages.

Most certainly!! I'm having issues getting screen shots though. Print screen is not working. Overall, I'm having fun with the development version. If any one has questions, please feel free to contact me. I've been working with this almost full time for my work over the last two weeks. I'd be happy to help until I get a tutorial up.

Print screen SHOULD work when you dump it in paint. While working in VS 2011 developer with the metro JS apps, the dubug output does not. Probably a minor issue in the win 8 platform. It works elswhere. I will have screenshots though, no worries :)
