I'm "older" so I don't remember how to use it that way, if it's at all possible. I don't think it was with full screen capture via WinKey/PrintScreen combo then edit in Paint. I believe it was a rectangular snip one could take.
    The link is in my post above. However, here it is:

    1. Run Snipping tool, select Capture type (Full screen, Windows, Region = Rectangle Snip, Freehand), Press ESC if screen greyed out
    2. Display the captured target (Whatever you want to capture)
    3. CTRL+PrintScreen (Screen greyed out => Capture Mode), then Capture

    Here's an example of rectangle snip of Store App:

    Going back to the original question, have you tried altering settings in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\TabletPC\Snipping Tool ? CaptureMode maybe?
    Not about to try here but maybe worth a shot.

    Capture Mode:
    1 ----> Free Form Snip
    2 ----> Rectangle
    3 ----> Windows
    4 ----> Full Screen

    Winkey+Prnt Scrn works great. Especially if you use it in different ways.

    The slowdown of Windows Snipping Tool for me is that it stops everything while you name & save it.

    With Winkey+Prnt Scrn it is automatically named Screenshot (**) in the Screenshots folder. Located in your Pictures folder.
    To crop it , write on it , draw on it etc. just right click on the screenshot and click Edit for it to open in Paint or whatever you set as editor program.

    I also added the Screenshots folder to the Library to save a click.
    I set that folder to Sort by Descending (so the most recent screenshot is on top)
    If I rename a screenshot , I leave the original name and type the new name afterwards (. Which keeps them grouped for later reference.
    I would like to Pin Screenshots to Taskbar temporarily on occassions but can't.
    So I settled for a Screenshots Toolbar which isn't bad .

    Great ideas/suggestions, pc rat.

    Heh, you're going to be able to smash another edition if/when you upgrade to 8.1? Are you working on the sig?

    I'm not getting 8.1 rightaway. I like the sound of Tile Customization. Other than that; 8 is sweeeeeeeeeT.
    I enjoy logging into that Big Beautiful Graphical Start Menu with easy to recognize desktop program tiles and modern app tiles.
    The Graphical Start Menu shortcut and All apps shortcut on my taskbar.
    As well as several toolbars like Programs, Graphics, Office, Desktop, Links etc.

    It is sweeeet!

    To each their own, but you'll be able to do all that in 8.1 along with a lot more native customizing options.

    Lol! I'd like to see the hammer come down on 8. I see it as the biggest "stepping stone" of all OSs. What a very controversial change indeed!

    I'll get 8.1 HippsieGypsie but wait until the 2nd Thursday of November.
    Oct 18 — Nov 14 I'll read the screams of joys as people vent about it's shortcomings but more importantly; I'll be reading for tips, tricks & discoveries from within 8.1 in the forums.
    That also allows the first 2nd Tuesday update to fix the few minor blemishes it has.
    Then I'll swing that hammer and install 8.1 on another partition if I can.
    As long as MS doesn't take my graphical start screen away ... I will be happy.
    I read that description in someone else's post last week and hope they aren't mad about me borrowing their term.
