Help! No icons on start screen after moving AppData!

Hi guys,

Wondering if you could help me. My icons on my start screen have disappeared, after I moved my app data folders as of this guide. Some of the names appear rather oddly, and none of the metro icons do anything, apart from desktop and Google chrome.

P.P.S ***EDIT*** Just checked, Store also loads, but returns to start screen after splash.
P.P.P.S ***EDIT*** If it's any help, I also attempted a Windows 8.1 install since posting this originally.

I don't know who this author is nor do I want to question his knowledge, but there's a whole slew of changes that are different in Windows 8 than compared to XP. Vast kernel changes for one. Hierarchical folder structure for another. Safety features blocking system changes for yet another. I don't think it to be wise to start moving folders around unless one is absolutely sure of what they're doing and for a good reason to do so.

I'd move it back as David suggested, but in addition, reverse the order of procedure in order to perform that.

And just to let you know, they are called tiles on the Start Screen.

HippsieGypsie, I would move the folder(s) back, but I have replaced the space used by the folders on my C: drive with some software. I am stuck now, since I don't want to uninstall Blender. :(​

That means your disk is full right?

There's no need to uninstall Blender, just uninstall something else, get a bigger disk or: try to clean up temporary files (from AppData\Local\Temp and Appdata\LocalLow\Temp).

It's never a good idea to remove the entire AppData folder because it's used by the system and there you have, for instance, all the Start Screen shortcuts for your user account. If you have a backup, restore it back or try to get the folder from another user (if possible, to rebuild the structure) but the last resort will be system restore (might not contain the user files), image backup restore or even to refresh the PC.

Cleaning up the full disk:
You can right click on the disk -> Properties -> Disk Cleanup or use a utility like CCleaner to do the details.

You can also shrink down the pagefile in some exclusive cases... depends how much free space you still have on the disk and how much it's still needed. But a full disk isn't very good because temporary files are always created and you need SOME free space for spare at each moment.
