    Charms Bar (Time/Date Panel ) RegEdit wanted please.

    Anyone know if you can do a RegEdit to remove the "Time/Date" panel when you activate the "Charms Bar" please ?

    I just hate the way it works. Can't see the point in it , I have the time and date on the superbar already and never use the start screen as such but I like the Metro search function ( So I wont disable it completely ). Am I correct in saying that the Metro UI part of Win 8 is not themeable , As in a custom "Visual Style" edit ?

    Thanks

    With decor8 you can customize certain colors that pertain to the charm bar, so to your question is it themeable, yes.
    How it works to change it I dont know the mechanics but you can customize background and text colors.
    See here Decor8 - Personalize the Windows® 8 Start screen with Decor8™!

    Not really what I had in mind but thanks for the link I appreciate it. Stardock are not my favorite software company to be honest. I used to make themes for Windows Blinds for 7. Also used to make them with Style builder as well. I won't be buying anymore Stardock products.

    Anyone know what Metro is written in ?

    Anyone know where its stored on my PC ?

    Is it all code or a mixture of code and images please ? At a guess its both due to the system Icons being shown. ( They are larger than the notification tray ones so I could edit them with transparent .pngs.)

    Must be some way to customize it by messing with transparencies and altering the font sizes of the time and date panel.

    I am using a custom visual style with my system patched. The time and date panel shows some transparency when opened up ,not much but its noticeable.

    I personally think its a crappy design and had little thought put into it. Looks okish with the superbar docked at the bottom of the screen and looks good when position to the right to a certain degree. Unfortunately I have it on the left and its just a mess when it opens.

    Another wild guess is that it will break the lock screen If I edit it , but I don't use that anyway

    Views anyone ?

    You are most welcome. Considering your case I can only suggest you look into some soft called My WCP CharmBar customizer BUT I havent been able to get it to work properly on W8 myself (released for W8 CP) , maybe since you sound skilled in the subject, you could look into it and figure out some pertaining details to your question, good luck.

    The picture is exactly what I want , so it is possible. Just ran the app and it crashes every time. I did a quick google about and its made my "Canouna" ( The guy that did all the leaks over on My Digital Life forums ) from what I gather he isn't around anymore ?

    As you said the app was made for the release preview. Heres the error log for it :

    ************** JIT Debugging **************
    To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
    application or computer (machine.config) must have the
    jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
    The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled.

    For example:

    <configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
    </configuration>
    It has the option to edit the UI file manually , so if I can find that I may be able to do it myself. At a guess it will just be an .xml edit and then open up a .dll to find the image files.

    Thanks so much for pointing me in the the right direction.

    You are most welcome, once again, I know the charms bar is called (EdgeUI) if that might shine some light on the subject.
    A quick search inside Windows folder shows several results, good luck.

    I think "twinui.dll.mui" in C:\Windows\System 32\en-US may have something to do with this as you can edit the text of the charms bar with ResHacker. Think I better put Win 8 on my old laptop and see what I can break lol. I do remember vaguely some mods came out on the early betas to add and change the charms UI about but I think Microsoft removed the code for RTM. Most likely why the charms customiser you linked is now broken. Its a pity as that seemed really cool.

    When I searched my Windows folder all I came up with was ADML & ADMX files. I could open them up with notepad but I don't think you can edit them as such.

    The link you gave has some cool stuff on adding/deleting transitions. I will hook up my old laptop this weekend and give it a bash.

    Thanks Amoled.

    Ya...I can't understand why MS made a date&time at that lower left position when you hover over the Charms Bar
    It could have it in the Charms Bar ....either above the search or below the setting.
    Sure it will look better and less obstructive.

    Ok...back to what you're looking for.....

    I am presuming you are using Windows 8 RTM (X64)

    The file to edit is C:\Windows\system32\twinui.dll

    Please check that you have the product version of 6.2.9200.16604 by right click.. under Detail Tab

    Replace the mod twinui.dll (download link below)...lock out and in for it to take effect.

    The date&time should be out of sight.
