Show sort headings in all views (Win 8, File Explorer)?

In Windows 7 I used the the .dll file Explorer8fixes.dll, https://github.com/ijprest/Explorer7Fixes to return the sort headings in File Explorer for all views (Large Icons, Lists, Details etc).

In Windows 8 I place the .dll in System32, run CMD as adminstrator, type regsvr32 explorer7fixes.dll, and it gives me a message to say it has registered the dll successfully. However there is no change in File Explorer, even after restarting the PC.

I would prefer to get this .dll modification working rather than install a larger customization piece of software which also happens to include this functionality such as ClassicShell, Folder Options X or QTTabBar.

    Can anyone help?

Are you talking about the highlighted headers in this screenshot:

They are native both in Windows 7 & 8, no need to use third party tools. Select Group by and how you want to group, it adds headers automatically. Use then Sort by function to sort inside groups.

    OK, I misunderstood you. Sorry.

No worries. Didn't mean to sound like an ass with the short answer, I was just in a hurry earlier.

What worries me is that this worked in Windows 7. And I'm half-sure it used to work in Windows 8 for me too. Feels like useability improvement hacks and Windows Updates are fighting a war against each other, never really gaining any real ground on the other.

Sorry, only details will show sort headers.

Yes fellas, by default only details shows the columns. That is why in Windows 7, and I'm half-sure it used to work in Win8 as well, I used the Explorer7fixes.dll to make them available in all views.

My problem is that now for some reason (possibly a Windows Update), it no longer works. The dll can be registered, but no change takes place even after logging-off or restarting the computer.

Has anyone noticed that Explorer7Fixes is made for Windows 7 Explorer?

The files date from 2010, it's seen on the site.

Maybe that's simply not compatible with the newer Explorer on Win8.

Yeah, I did mean explorer7fixes.dll My bad. Originally I didn't think it would work with Win8's Explorer, because I tried it and it wouldn't work. Then after reading online that some people had it working I somehow got it to work.

A few days ago I accidentally ran CCleaner which 'custom files and folders' ticked and it seems to have wiped it out, and now I cannot get Explorer7fixes.dll to work. Currently I can register the dll, but there is no change reflected in explorer even after logging out or restarting.

I wonder if maybe it's because I'm logging-in as a Microsoft Account and maybe I previously got it to work as a local account before switching over (I honestly can't remember)? But I'm gonna hit-up System Restore and see if I can roll back my settings until 30th April, which is when it was last working correctly.
