Will this work in Windows 8? Drive Icon - Change - Windows 7 Support Forums I don't have an autorun.inf.
When I highlight my USB drive It says install disk. I don't have a place to create a txt file. I would like to chance the icon.

    Thanks Clint

I got it to work by putting the camera card in the drive and writing to that. When I take the card out, it goes back to the old icon. Any way to keep the icon with the card ejected?

Use Notepad to create a .txt file.

I created the .txt file, but I had to save as [STEP 2] on the card. When the card is removed the icon changes back to original.

    I have microangelo toolset.

I can change any icon I want to with it.
    It is not free.

There may be free programs around that can do it too.
    Try Google.

    Hello Clint,

Did you give OPTION THREE a try in the tutorial to see if that may work better for you?

Brink, You are the man. I used option 3 and it worked flawless. How do you know all this stuff? You should write a book. I sure would buy it. You showed me how to do this FREE with out buying any 3rd party software. Thanks again Brink!!

Hey Brink, after I moved to 8.1, I did the drive icons again. I have them, but the card reader drives are grayed out. If you put a card in it comes back sharp. It didn't do that in W8. Any ideas how to get to look any better?

They'll be faded when the device is hidden when empty. Check using the tutorial below to make sure that you do not have the option to hide empty drives selected.

Drives - Hide or Show Empty Drives in Computer Folder - Windows 7 Help Forums

They would show faded if you have the option to show hidden files, folders, and drives checked in Folder Options.
    Hope this helps.
